Hundreds of movies hit the box office each year, and while some are successful, others fail to make a place in people’s hearts. Amongst the biggest hits are James Cameron’s directorial success and Arnold Schwarzenegger starrer 1984 box office hit cult-classic film The Terminator. The movie became so iconic that alongside its characters, the dialogue too, as Arnold recalled, became the “number one line in the history of motion pictures.” But how was it to perfect the iconic dialogues? Arnold’s co-star Linda Hamilton in a 2019 interview opened up.

So, how did Linda do when she was asked to deliver that iconic line? Let’s find out.
Was it easy for Arnold Schwarzenegger’s co-star to perfect the iconic dialogue?
Arnold and his co-star Linda Hamilton sat to talk about the success of their famous movie Terminator: Dark Fate and Terminator 2: Judgement Day scenes. The two discussed their famous one-liners. Sharing a little back story, Arnold initially revealed that he insisted on speaking, “I will be back.” However, on Cameron’s persuasion, he ended up saying, “I’ll be back.”
Much to his surprise, his little change in pronunciation created a history in the movie world. The dialogue became so iconic that even his co-star Linda Hamilton was required to say it. Talking about it, Linda commented, “When you lived with a line that has become so iconic, it was so hard to say it not like Arnold.” As she was quickly reminded that she had delivered the iconic dialogue perfectly, she intervened only to share a different story.
Even though Linda mastered the iconic dialogue, it took her many retakes to perfect it. Speaking about it, she added, “that was like the hundredth time” she finally managed to execute with perfection. Well, it is needless to say, Arnold’s one-liners are not everyone’s cup of tea. To date, Arnold’s name with Terminator remains synonymous. But had he not impressed Cameron at lunch, perhaps fans would have seen someone else playing the part!
When Cameron was unconvinced of Arnold being a part of the Terminator
It may come up as a surprise, but Cameron was initially reluctant about Arnold being a part of the movie. He thought Arnie was a misfit in the character of the protagonist. He decided to go out with the former bodybuilder for lunch to please the studio. However, what followed next changed Cameron’s perspective. Laying the foundation of one of the most famous bromances in Hollywood, that lunch date changed the future narrative.
