“Was in Fantastic Shape”: Michael Jackson’s Trainer Lou Ferrigno Recalled the Last Time He Saw Him During an Interview in 2009

After the king of pop, Michael Jackson, passed away in 2009, Lou Ferrigno expressed his sorrow in a Good Morning America Exclusive. Lou, who was once Michael’s personal trainer, spoke about his time with the star.

Ferrigno expressed his gratitude for MJ as he discussed their relationship. He said that MJ made him feel like a close friend. In his 2009 interview, the bodybuilder, who has ventured into the world of art himself with his exposure as an actor, spoke about helping the genius who wrote hits like Beat It and Smooth Criminal, with his training.

Michael Jackson has been an inspiration to many. Incidentally, he was training to get in shape for an upcoming tour when he met Ferrigno. Upon being asked if The Incredible Hulk star ever noticed that MJ’s health could be deteriorating, he said that the singer always appeared very energetic.

“The guy was in fantastic shape,” he said. He frequently visited the Jackson residence. “I have gone to his house three or four times a week,” he added. “He didn’t want to deal with weight train so he mostly wanted to deal with flexibility and conditioning,” said Lou.

“We hit off an instant friendship,” says the athlete while discussing his first meeting with Jackson.

Michael Jackson passed away on June 25th, 2009. He died of acute Propofol and Benzodiazepine intoxication at his Holmby Hills, Los Angeles, California residence on North Carolwood Drive. A revolutionary display of global support for the American singer’s past works followed. 

His passing set off a chain of events that resulted in inconceivable spikes in Internet traffic and music sales. Afterward, an estimated 2.5 billion people across the world watched a memorial service that was aired live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The distribution rights to Michael Jackson’s recordings were retained by Sony Music Entertainment until 2017 in exchange for a whopping $250 million. Seven albums would follow in the next 10 years.

Furthermore, Lou Ferrigno was one of the people who saw him during his last days. “To see him, I’d say about three weeks ago,” stated the bodybuilder, remembering the last time that they met. “I was like his personal friend,” he continued, and said, “I was too devastated.” 

The King of Pop might have left the world more than a decade ago, but his legacy lives long and the history he created stays etched in the minds and hearts of his fans all over the globe.
