Kai Greene holds an exceptional physique and stage presence. An uncrowned bodybuilding legend, he is a man of passion and indomitable spirit. Enjoying a massive fan following, the Arnold Classic title winner has tasted success like no other. However, for the bodybuilding veteran and movie star, life was never easy. But his spirits were too high to be crushed.

Sitting down for an exclusive with Generation Iron, the bodybuilder reflects on his past experiences in prison. He also talks about how a lifetime of fury was transformed into a love of bodybuilding. Getting candid, Kai had a lot to share.

Kai Greene talks about his life’s dark past 

Born as Leslie Greene, life for the young boy was surrounded by hardships and difficulties. Orphaned at a young age, his past was marred by pain, abuse, and difficulty. It may surprise you, but Kai’s history included a term of confinement in a juvenile prison facility. His previous way of life, combined with the risky and harsh conditions of the juvenile detention facility, caused him to explode in rage.

Speaking about his rage and past life, he said, “felt like my anger would consume me.” Surrounded by the dark cycle of violence, suffering, and despair, he “felt like there wasn’t a place big enough on this planet.” Unable to comprehend the surrounding, all he had was the rage in his heart.

The days were so difficult that he commented, I would hang up from the ceiling if I could.” Traumatized by his past experience and being engrossed with rage, he said,I wanted to kill everything and every living thing.” However, he soon found a way to channel his inner energy. A way that helped him metamorphose from Leslie Greene to Kai Greene. A way that helped him earn a name.

What helped Kai transform his life?

Kai Greene pushed himself to grow stronger in the face of traumatic experiences and rage. He still wasn’t sure what bodybuilding as a sport included. But knew he needed a place to vent the intense wrath that had taken over his entire being.

He confessed that he started with intense workouts, which helped him channel his energy in a more positive direction. He soon realized that bodybuilding gave him the recognition and fame he longed for. “I was getting bigger and stronger and was getting respect from my peers,” Kai confessed.
