During his competition days, Cutler’s insane traps made him look like he had no neck. Like every bodybuilder, he had his way of working on traps.
For the unversed, traps are large superficial muscles that extend from the neck to the lower back. Recently, Cutler shared a video on his Instagram, revealing how he built his trap muscles, which gave him the chiseled beast look.

Although Cutler is popularly known as the quad-stomper, his upper body features are no less. In his Instagram video, the 49-year-old revealed that he is often asked about the secret to his mind-blowing traps and what are the best lifts to build them.

According to him, there are several shrug variations for traps, including – barbell, dumbbell, and behind-the-back upright rows. Dumbbells worked out best for him. He stated in the video, “ I’ve always stuck to dumbbells for my traps, and this focusing unilaterally.”
Cutler explained that while performing with dumbbells, one must concentrate on the straight up and down movements. People may face strength discrepancies, but to really contract, they must keep performing the movement.
Furthermore, he revealed that his focus was on high repetition ranges with a maximum of eight reps. He stated in the video, “I do anywhere between 8 to 12 reparations usually around 12, really doing about at least three or four sets per exercise.”
At last, he ended his video by suggesting,“ You want to build big traps? You want to have no neck? Stick to your dumbbell shrugs.” Moreover, the much-awaited secret to Cutler’s traps has made his video go viral.

Jay Cutler professionally began bodybuilding at 18. Soon, he gained attention in the community for his jaw-dropping quads. Many recognized him as “the kid with crazy legs.” However, Cutler did not focus on his legs for a long time.

During an interview in 2018, Jay Cutler revealed that very early during his gym days, he received the title of best legs. For Cutler, his legs were the easiest part to build. Contrarily, his focus was catching up on his upper body. He revealed in the interview, “I didn’t actually train my legs from 20 to 23.” For a great part of his prep days, Cutler concentrated on building his desirable shoulders and traps.
