Bodybuilding is a sport that demands lots of energy, discipline, training, and much more to stay in the game. Despite having to put in so much, this 81-year-old from Newcastle continues to compete in bodybuilding. Ted Clifton is a great-grandparent now, but he still commits himself to train regularly and competing in competitions. In 2022, he completed 60 years in the competition circuit and continues to do so.

These 60 years haven’t been as linear as it sounds. As he grew old, Clifton faced several serious health issues, but his determination and love for bodybuilding never let him stop. Let us have a look at the journey of this inspiring bodybuilder.

Bodybuilding enthusiast proves that age is just a number

Age cannot come between your enthusiasm until you let it hinder it, and Ted Clifton proved this as he overcame every obstacle in his way to pursue bodybuilding. As reported by Newcastle World, one of the biggest obstacles was the triple heart bypass he went through around 2015. However, it didn’t stop him at all. Clifton was competing in a show just six months after the surgery. At 81, Clifton eats six meals a day, to provide himself with the nutrition his body requires. Clifton competed in a Masters competition and stood as the runner-up. He is still as enthusiastic as he was at his young age. But how did it all begin? Let us find out.

Clifton got a knack for bodybuilding when he was just a teen. Although he began lifting weights as a training process for being better at football, it eventually led to a different path. However, as he continued lifting weights, he began enjoying it even more than football. It changed everything. Clifton then dedicated himself to bodybuilding. In the 60s, Clifton worked hard to earn money to open his gym. Since he got his sense of bodybuilding love, he never stopped.

It was in 1978 when Ted inaugurated his professional gym, Ted’s Gym, Workington, and since then, it is still working to this date. Yes, it has been 44 years since he has been providing instructions to other bodybuilders who are pursuing the sport.
