Arnold Schwarzenegger is undoubtedly one of the greatest bodybuilders of all time. The legendary bodybuilder set multiple records throughout his illustrious career. But winning the Mr. Olympia title a record seven times was the highlight of his career that set him apart from his contemporaries. In the process of achieving greatness, Arnold competed against legendary bodybuilders of his era.

Such was Arnold’s prowess that when he signed in for any contest, people could not see anyone else win. However, the legendary bodybuilder had his own set of vanquishments in the early stages of his career. The boxing world had an idea of Arnold’s potential ever since he participated as an amateur bodybuilder.

Arnold Schwarzenegger competes with a legend

The Austria Oak, Arnold Schwarzenegger moved to California to pursue his career as a bodybuilder. Ever since he got his eyes on bodybuilding, the legend has never looked back. He participated in multiple amateur competitions to gain experience while his eyes were focused on the ultimate prize. Recently, a photograph of Arnold from one of his competitions resurfaced on the internet.

The unearthed image was from the NABBA Mr. Universe (amateur) Contest where he was competing against ‘The Father of Natural Bodybuilding’, Chester Yorton. Chet Yorton was called the ‘The Father of Natural Bodybuilding’ for his advocacy of steroid-free bodybuilding. Arnold lost to Chet at the NABBA Mr. Universe contest held in the year 1966.

Defeating Arnold was one of the most victorious moments of Chet’s career. After retiring from bodybuilding, Chet became an advocate for clean and steroid-free bodybuilding. Due to the increase in the usage of steroids by a lot of bodybuilders, Chet decided that it was necessary to spread awareness and end the problem from its root cause.

Chester Yorton’s horrific accident

While he was a teenager, an incident changed the course of his life. Chet got into an accident while he was returning home along with his friend. His friend lost control of the car and crashed into a tree. The iconic bodybuilder’s hips were dislocated, and he severely injured his thighs.

The horrific accident left him injured severely with glass severing through his left eyeball. Doctors were contemplating between amputating his leg and surgery. However, they went forward with surgery.

The surgery was successful but his road to recovery was a very long one. The popular bodybuilder spent close to four months in the wheelchair. Even after facing a life-threatening accident, Chet did not give up. He went on to win multiple bodybuilding titles in his career.
