The last weight scale reading for Mehler was over 570 pounds and the apparel size that would fit him was a 10XL size shirt. Mehler had a difficult time being active like climbing the stairs or walking, owing to his bulkiness. Speaking to New York Post, he recalled, “I couldn’t walk a meter without losing my breath and getting sweaty.”
Obesity not just deprived him of a regular routine, but also affected his physical and mental health. “It truly was a horrible experience and I thought I would die, even my blood pressure was going through the roof,” Mehler described his struggle due to his whopping size.
Mehler was keen on taking his health seriously and embarked on his fitness journey in February 2020 when he decided to go under the knife for bariatric sleeve surgery. The surgery benefited Mehler to some extent as it helped him slim down right away. But Michael Mehler was planning on cutting some more calories even after the surgery. So he started working out.
Diet and workout routine as the cornerstone for a healthy weight loss
Mehler credited a clean diet and workout routine as the secret to his further weight reduction. “I experienced the most drastic weight loss after changing my diet and working out regularly,” he insisted. Now his shirt size dropped from 10 XL to XXL which is undoubtedly a massive size shift for the 38 -year-old.
Mehler’s workout regime includes weight training and cardio sessions as he ensures to train 6 times a week. Protein intake is crucial for muscles, realized Mehler, as he concentrated on his daily protein consumption. His meals include
- Whey protein added to porridge topped with a few berries for breakfast
- A plate of chicken and veggies with some rice is the menu for lunch
- A tuna-stuffed whole-grain bread for dinner
