Bulging Veins: A case of vascularity or varicose?

Vascularity is a term used in bodybuilding to describe the pump or the popping out of veins due to heavy lifting. This phenomenon takes place due to the extreme reduction of subcutaneous fat in the body, which is imperative for maximum muscle definition. In fact, vascularity is a practice bodybuilders indulge in on purpose, often changing their diets a few days before competitions to make their veins stand out as much as possible. They also use tanning oils and hard-and-fast training sessions to improve visibility.

However, this is considered a controversial practice as bodybuilders might indulge in unhealthy practices to ensure visibility. This can range from taking diuretics to medications that dilate their blood vessels. These practices often result in a disease called varicose veins, where the blood starts flowing backward in the veins. Varicose is also caused by anabolic drugs and is not a condition to be taken lightly. It can lead to amputation in certain cases as well.
