

The legendary bodybuilder and eight times Mr. Olympia, Ronnie Coleman, talked about some interesting points during a podcast. One year ago, he featured on “Nothin’ But A Podcast”, where he spilled some beans about his career.

The 8X Mr. Olympia title holder talked about himself and other bodybuilders’ participation in the Grand Prix and other competitions.
Ronnie Coleman reveals bodybuilders’ dedication in competitions other than Mr. Olympia
Ronnie Coleman is the bodybuilder with the highest Mr. Olympia titles with Lee Haney. However, according to the legend, he and other bodybuilders didn’t put the same effort into the other competitions apart from Mr. Olympia. Coleman said, “A lot of times they were giving us hamburgers.”

Coleman added, “Nobody was like really hardcore dieting. We know, we were just there for you know, hanging out with the fans and make a little extra money and everybody had that same attitude.”
Coleman also said that he found out that the body peaks once a year. In that case, no one would want their body to not be at its peak when they competed for Mr. Olympia.
Coleman: Except for one or two, nobody is in shape
As per Coleman, in competitions like the Grand Prix or some other, none of the bodybuilders gives their best. They do not push their limits or diet strictly. The competitions mostly are organized back to back, so the athletes don’t give their everything and just cruise through them.

Moreover, Coleman explained, “You maybe have like one guy in shape, maybe sometimes two but never no more than that, because you know for some of the shows, the precedent is set at the top and the top guy is not even in shape and so they just carry the whole era that way.“

From the legend’s words, we can assume that it’s mostly about Mr. Olympia. It is the top point of the ladder that every bodybuilder aims for. The other competition is their way to enjoy and keep the continuity of training, practice, and money.
