The Masters Olympia has finally returned after 11 years gap. In a few months, the contest is set to take place in Cluj Napoca, Romania. With $229,000 as prize money at stake, older bodybuilders are now gearing up for the bodybuilding contest. Fans are also excited to see the bodybuilding veterans once again chase the gold in 10 divisions. However, the same excitement couldn’t be seen in the bodybuilding guru, Chris Aceto.

In his recent chat with Dave Palumbo, Aceto heavily criticized the return of the Master Class. Aceto urged people to stop promoting the Masters Olympia as he just wants to pull the plugs on it. He seemed to have some convincing arguments to back his opinion!

On 3rd April 2023, RxMuscle released the latest episode of one of the foremost bodybuilding podcasts, Heavy Muscle Radio. Hosted by Dave Palumbo, the episode featured the bodybuilding coach, Chris Aceto. While talking about the upcoming Masters Olympia, Aceto expressed his distaste towards the event. He believes that the event is not worth it for the veterans to come out of their retirement.

Comparing it to the other sports, Aceto said, “They don’t have the Masters NBA or the Masters NFL… you know. Major League Baseball.” He further pointed out that the bodybuilding world has the most critical fans of all fans in the sports world. Aceto explained, “Because, in the NFL, we could go watch a game and say the Bengals stunk, you know. In bodybuilding, we could say Kai or Phil stunk and then what fans do is, ‘This is what he needs to do.’ I mean talk about Monday morning quarterbacking.”

Additionally, Aceto believes that Masters Olympia is not as prestigious as Mr. Olympia. As his logic goes he owes it to the participation of unpopular contestants.

The Technician revealed that his only reason for not liking the contest is the unknown winners. Talking about a former Masters Olympia, Aceto pointed out not many knew who he was. Aceto clarified that his statement was not negative or meant to demean the bodybuilder (Don Youngblood), but that he is just stating the obvious.

Furthering his opinions on the matter, he opined that this gave way to bodybuilders, who otherwise would never stand a chance of winning Mr. Olympia, win in the Masters Class. Therefore, for veterans like Jay Cutler, who have won in the big league, the Masters Olympia would be like moving from a higher class to a lower class. Moreover, the individual prize money allocated for the winners didn’t seem enough for Aceto to make an effort that grand.
