Back in 2019, in an interview, retired bodybuilder and IFBB Mr. America Lou Ferrigno talked about what went wrong during the 1992 Mr. Olympia competition. The legend highlights the issues and pinpoints what he could have done right for better results.

Lou Ferrigno is a retired bodybuilder and actor. During his stint as a bodybuilder, Ferrigno won two-time IFBB Mr. Universe Titles and IFBB Mr. America Title. As an actor, Lou has been a part of notable productions such as “The Pumping Iron”, a documentary, and the CBS television series “The Incredible Hulk”. Growing up, Ferrigno didn’t had a great childhood as he was diagnosed with ear infections, losing 80% of his hearing capability.

In the year 1992, Ferrigno made his return to Mr. Olympia’s competition. However, the bodybuilder didn’t have the best returns and finished only 12th that year. Highlighting the issues, Ferrigno said, “You really had to be tensed and flexed and I didn’t put enough time into that so that was my fault”.

The bodybuilder could not secure a better position at the ’92 Olympia for the two most important reasons. First, he overtrained and did not realize that there was a change in the symmetry and compulsory rounds.

Bodybuilding has changed with time. However, given the nature of the sport and the cut-throat competition, athletes need to keep a tab on it regularly. On pointing out the event’s judgments, the legend did not question the assessment’s fairness and accepted his drawbacks.

How did he cope with this going forward?

The legend took notes of all the things that went wrong during the ’92 Mr. Olympia and worked on them. He did return the following year and finished two places higher than the previous year at 10th.
