UK’s strongman contender, Joe ‘The Animal’ Oliver, has tick marked all the above points to win UK’s Strongest Teen and the UK Under 23s. The 20-year-old successfully deadlifts 771 lbs, but it wasn’t the case around six years ago. The Animal was very skinny during his adolescent years, and no one would have even assumed he will become UK’s strongest man competitor one day.

However, sheer hard work and vision have led him to this destination now. In this article, let us have a look at the brilliant journey of Oliver.

A journey that changed the course of Oliver’s life

Although Oliver knew the strong genetics he inherits, he himself didn’t know that he will be pursuing the title of strongest man one day. The base of the strength began to flourish as Oliver began to compete in football while in secondary school. Gradually, as he played rugby, he realized the inherited strength he possesses. While speaking with SunSport recently, Oliver admitted“My main attribute in rugby was physical power and from a genetic standpoint my Dad has always been strong, he used to arm wrestle and he’s lifted weight his whole life. My whole family is quite strong.”

Later comes the pandemic, which locked the world inside their homes. However, Oliver used the time to change his life. The Animal tried strongman during the first lockdown. And now, he is going to give contention to some of the best strongmen in the UK as he is about to compete in UK’s Strongest Man 2023. Other than working hard while training and lifting heavy weights. He consumes around 7500 calories to maintain his strength and physique. Similarly, as we talk about his training, Oliver does a basic gym workout on the weekdays, whereas he pumps his strongman stuff during the weekends. And the strongman stuff includes atlas stones, logs, tyre flips and farmer’s walks.

Oliver had a magnificent last year when he received the result of his hard work, as he won UK’s Strongest Teen and UK Under 23 to qualify for this year’s UK’s Strongest Man. Moreover, he also stood sixth at England’s Strongest Man. Now, it will be interesting to see him compete against the big guys.
