The bodybuilding world is full of inspiring stories from various sub-domains of the sport. Many of the popular athletes that one now knows about and loves, have emerged from the ashes of their past. One of them is strongman champion, Tom Stoltman. The star was once hit by major hurdles when he was young. But he managed to push through.

In an interview with Luxury London, Stoltman opened up about living with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) since he was five years old. While the cognitive challenges came along with it, Stoltman found a way to cope. Let’s dive in to find out more!

Tom Stoltman had the perfect solution to get the weight off his chest

Navigating through autism from a young age was tough for The Albatross. But Stoltman didn’t receive the title of the strongest man in the world twice for no reason. Bodybuilding and training helped him come to terms with his disorder. Soon, it became a medium for him to express himself.

The strongman champion recalled being embarrassed about his diagnosis during school. Not being able to go out with friends, getting pulled out of class, and facing questions upon getting extra help—all of these things contributed to his obstacles. But the champ persevered and slowly began opening up.

Now, the tables have turned. Stoltman confessed how fans from all over the world pop open up to him about their ASD diagnosis. And he now has a terrific piece of advice to offer as reported by Luxury London, “It’s a superpower, at the end of the day. That’s how I describe it. I want everyone to know that it is a superpower”. The gym saved Stoltman’s life, and now he gladly helps his fans whenever he can.

The gym held Stoltman away from the dark

Life wasn’t easy for the UK strongman, as he grew up facing some serious challenges. ASD often impacts one’s cognitive abilities, and Stoltman would constantly face bullying for his setbacks. When his dream of becoming a football player came crashing down due to his disorder, he was pushed to the brink.

Luckily, that’s when his tryst with the gym began. Working out helped him gradually climb out of his depression. Training and building up his body to become a strongman, therefore, saved his life.
