Strongman Giant Hafthor Bjornsson Borrowed Money “Just to Eat” as His Low-Paying Security Gigs Didn’t Cover a $5,000-a-Month Diet, Revealed Earlier This Year

Hafthor Julius Bjornsson can be called by many names and several adjectives. While he has accomplished his name in various sports, Thor has also acted in the HBO series Game of Thrones, as ‘The Mountain’. While he is extremely popular and successful now, this wasn’t always the case. 

Once upon a time, the strongman didn’t even have money to feed his stomach. What was all this about? And what changed the conditions for him? Let’s find out.

Hafthor Bjornsson couldn’t even fulfill his basic needs

Thor is the perfect example of showing the value of hard work and determination. In his early days, Bjornsson had nothing other than a security gig that could barely feed his huge body’s requirements. Everything else was completely out of the question.

A boy from Iceland, where most of the foods need to be imported, his grocery bill of ‘$5,000 per month’ couldn’t possibly be paid with his tiny salary.

In an interview earlier this year, Thor revealed how he used to make up for the extra money he needed to survive during those days. The Mountain said, “I was borrowing from everybody just to eat”. 

How did Thor change his circumstances?

Even though Hafthor was in an extremely terrible situation during those initial days, it worked as a blessing in disguise. He worked hard, remained in pursuit of improvement every day, and kept doing that until he succeeded.

In 2011, he made his debut in the World’s Strongest Man. Although he didn’t win the title, it eventually opened the doors to success, when in 2013 he was cast in Game Of Thrones as ‘The Mountain’. Finally, after being patient for several years, he won the World’s Strongest Man title in 2018.
