However, 8x Mr. Olympia Lee Haney has some important advice for bodybuilders who are struggling with their calf development.

Haney’s expertise in bodybuilding needs no introduction as his 8 Olympia titles speak for him. However, last month, the legendary bodybuilder made headlines as he spilled out some beans on how to achieve well-defined calves.

Lee Haney wants youngsters to increase the frequency of calf training

A video shared by Oofafitness on March 14 has garnered a lot of attention across social media platforms, Haney talked about a widespread misconception that he frequently observed in many young athletes. The former Mr. Olympia highlighted the fact that many young bodybuilders train their calves only twice or thrice a week. According to him, this low frequency of training is the primary reason for the lack of calves in new-age bodybuilders as they need to be trained 5 to 6 times a week.

“We trained our calf five to six days a week. A calf is a stubborn muscle so how do you expect it to respond? You have been walking around on them since you were born.” Haney pointed out that as the calves’ muscles are constantly subjected to pressure they become used to high endurance. So one needs to find different ways to shock the muscles in order to increase their size.

The eight-time Mr. Olympia champion advised the youngster to focus more on proper contraction and relaxation of the muscle in order to get maximum results. “You need to stimulate and nearly annihilate their calves, making them respond and grow”, Haney said in the video. However, this is not the first time that the champion bodybuilder has burst out of a myth prevailing in the world of bodybuilding.

Haney busting another myth related to a shredded physique

The legendary bodybuilder is also an expert in maintaining a balanced diet according to one’s demands. In an interview, the former Mr. Olympia also opened up about the relationship between a low-carb diet and getting a shredded physique. The 63-year-old bodybuilder pointed out a common mistake of putting in excess weight during the off-season and then pushing the limits to cut it off as the competition approaches.

Haney made a bold claim as, he said, “Low carbs are for fat boys…if you like a Pokey the Pig in the off-season”. Cutting out excess carbs and starving to get ready is not a healthy approach according to the legend as there are many alternatives to this approach. Overall, Lee Haney often provides clear road maps for effective growth and aspiring bodybuilders would hope to get many such advice in the coming future as well.
