“Still Hot for Each Other”: Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Ex-Wife Maria Shriver Defended Her Marriage Against Rumors of Them Separating in 2004

Before calling it quits, seven times Mr. Olympia winner Arnold Schwarzenegger and his wife Maria Shriver were married for 25-long years. The two met each other at a Kennedy event. Coming from the famous Shriver-Kennedy clan, Maria, by that time, had established herself as an eminent journalist. Still new to the entertainment industry, Arnold was then a rising Hollywood star. For the two, there was love at first sight.

Nine years from the date of their first meet, the two married in front of a cheering crowd at St. Francis Xavier. Since then, Arnold’s name got involved in several controversies and dating rumors. It was on one such occasion in 2004 when his wife Maria took a stand for her husband.

During the said time, Arnold was holding the chair of California’s Governor. Arnold aligned himself with the Republican party, while Maria belonged to the famous Democratic Kennedy Clan. For the unversed, Arnold served as the Governor of California between 2003 to 2011. During the said time, Maria too helped him in his outreach programs and took up the responsibilities as the first lady of California. However, in 2011 an unexpected news took the tabloids by storm, ultimately ending their marriage in divorce.

What led to the divorce of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver?

Maria Shriver filed for divorce in 2011 when Arnold confessed that he had fathered a child outside of wedlock. Maria took the step after Arnold revealed that he had an affair with a member of their house staff. After a decade-long legal battle, the separation was formalized by a Los Angeles judge in 2021.

The revelation set off the tabloid frenzy. However, Arnold and Maria handled their separation privately without subjecting one other to any accusations in court or public. The two now live separate life but continue to remain on cordial terms. The two often come together for their children. A few months back, they were spotted together to celebrate their son Patrick’s birthday!
