The reigning Mr. Olympia Classic Physique champion, is a reflection of hard work and grit. Chris Bumstead celebrates a massive following on his social media and often shares pictures of his shredded avatar. However, dominating the current bodybuilding arena wasn’t easy for CBum.He often shares his pre-Olympia struggles and health issues, that popped up due to rigorous training. The 4x Olympia winner, recently opened up about his personal and professional life in a fun-filled episode with Maxx on the Dont Be Sour show, where he explains what it was like to figure out a bicep injury just before Mr.Olympia, 2022, event.

Imagine injuring yourself just before a major competition like Mr. Olympia. The bodybuilder, who has striking 20-inch biceps, had to experience such a situation just a day before the 2022 contest. In the talk show, CBum gives insights into his bicep tear and how he managed to ace the competition despite the injury. 

The Pre-Olympia injury that made CBum feel sick

Bumstead spoke about how he takes breaks from his training schedule to give some rest to his aching body. The breaks from training allow him to recuperate from stress and cortisol inflammations, and heal any injuries. Bumstead said, “Right after Olympia I literally take time off the gym. This year I tore my bicep, so I took eight weeks off training completely.” 

Maxx, the host of the show, was intrigued to know how CBum tore his bicep and posed a quick question, saying “ How did you tear your bicep? Was it something cool or were you like picking up a 10-pound dumbbell and tweaked?”. CBum was quick to add “It’s Neither! I don’t remember.

He explained how the entire incident rolled out. He woke up and felt his bicep hurt but he didn’t let it bother him much. “ Thursday, before the show I’m Like it really hurts. Friday it hurt even more, and on Friday night it is all red and swollen.” Expressing his disappointment and disbelief, he reflected on how he felt,” I’m like no injuries for a year, and now the day before I compete with my biceps like torn and Inflated.”  But CBum considers it to be Luck and “not shitty luck” as the tear was mild and was in the muscle belly.

The thought of sheer hard work going down the drain just because of a small injury is difficult to handle for anyone and CBum is no exception. The bicep injury left CBum with ghastly thoughts.

He reveals he had a minor breakdown in the washroom before the event, “I kinda had one of my CBum moments in the bathroom, crying. I got on my knees in front of this mirror in this private bathroom and I looked at myself and I was like, ‘What’s going on man?” But CBum doesn’t entertain succumbing to despair. He had a small pep-talk with himself, before posing with his shredded physique to the crowd. Such is the spirit of champions who rise to the occasion and outperform even in difficult situations.
