2x Tampa Pro winner, Akim Williams, won his last contest in August 2022. Later, he competed in two of the most coveted bodybuilding contests in quick succession. First, he competed in Mr. Olympia in December 2022, and the next, Arnold Classic in March 2023. Interestingly, Williams recently opened up in an Instagram video about competing in all these three contests with grave injuries. Although he won the Tampa Pro and secured the sixth position in the Arnold Classic, he didn’t do very well in the Olympia, finishing in the 16th position.

The BK Beast had his successful surgery last Thursday and has been doing well since. However, as the bodybuilding world came to learn about the surgery, they came forward to convey their best wishes for a quick recovery to Williams.

A few weeks prior to the Tampa Pro, Williams was caught in an accident that injured his back, neck, and shoulder. In an interview with Isabelle Turell, on her channel Fit Rockstar Show, which premiered on 28th August 2022, he said, “I was five or six weeks into my prep, and I was on my way to training one of my clients. I got on the highway, and I got hit from behind by a guy. I think he was on his way to the airport to drop off his sister-in-law, so I think he was rushing.”

Further, he also disclosed the details of his injury. He added, “From the whiplash from my head jerking forward and stuff like that, my neck was pretty messed up. My discs in my lower back moved. That was one of the really big things, and I had a shoulder injury.” The accident nearly ruined his chances of competing in the Tampa Pro. However, Williams gathered the courage and found a way to compete and even win the title.

However, it didn’t stop there. Even after the Tampa Pro, he overlooked the proper treatment of his injuries. Moreover, he decided to commit himself to the preps for Mr. Olympia and then, the Arnold Classic 2023. Eventually, after delaying it for eight months, Williams had the surgery done on 6th April.

In the Instagram video uploaded by Williams, he talked about his surgery and how he is doing now. While briefly giving the update, he said, “What’s going on guys? Here’s a quick update from me, just undergone my shoulder surgery, as you can see. My hand is still in a sling, just did it on Thursday.”

Talking about his accident, he explained, that he “got in a big car accident last year” and injured his back and shoulder, but continued to train. Explaining why he chose to get the surgery now, he said, “I still did the Olympia injured, I did the Arnold injured and I just felt like it was just time to take care of that problem.”
