Not everyone who hits the gym, goes to put on muscle. Besides bodybuilding, people with different goals train differently. Some train for weight loss, others train to improve their fitness, while powerlifters train purely for strength. While people, who achieve extreme flexibility often focus on stretching and yoga, most bodybuilders only stretch enough to prevent injury. So, what happens when you mix extreme flexibility with a core bodybuilding exercise? The result might shock you.

In February, a bodybuilding page on Instagram uploaded a video of an extremely flexible person doing a few reps of benchpress. While a traditional bench press has no scope for showing off one’s flexibility, the man in the video, found a way.

When you have unlimited flexibility

The video starts with a man sitting on a bench, getting ready to do a set of bench presses. However, instead of sitting straight up, it seems he first lied down with his legs under the barbell and used his spinal flexibility to lift his upper body, bending 90 degrees from the waist. The man then proceeds to fold his body backward, putting himself in a position to bench press the weight.

Michael Giacchino’s The Batman (2022) theme played throughout the video as the man bench pressed four plates with relative ease. After a few reps, the gym goer bends his body back up. The video ends as the man finally gets up and sits on the bench. The Instagram page, Gym Humor, uploaded the video with the caption, “Folded.”

Baffled bodybuilding fans couldn’t help but crack jokes

A day ago, former pro bodybuilder and powerlifter turned fitness influencer, Greg Doucette commented, “Yikes.” Some bodybuilding fans asked what the gym-goer was training for. “What is he training for?” asked one user. “Mans be training for the circus,” wrote another user. A third user seemed astonished. “Man Ain’t No Way! This Is Crazy!” the user wrote.

However, most of the baffled fans didn’t waste the opportunity to crack jokes about the man’s incredible spinal flexibility. People wrote comments like, “Bones left the chat.”, “Bro skipped bone day.”, “Spine has left the chat.” and “The flip phone is crazy.” What did you think about the individual’s insane flexibility and his ability to perform bench presses in such a position?
