Marvel actress Scarlett Johansson has never failed to look drop-dead gorgeous in the 70+ films she has worked in. From Iron Man to Endgame, Natasha Romanoff aka, Black Widow looked breathtaking in all, and she got her exercise in by going to the gym at 6 AM.  However, when Johansson was offered Black Widow as the title film, she ditched heavy weight lifting for a gentler form of exercise. 

During a new episode of Dear Media’s “The Skinny Confidential Him & Her Podcast”, actress Scarlett Johansson opened up about her newfound exercise love that she cannot get enough of.

Scarlett Johansson’s last Marvel Universe film Black Widow 2021, broke several records at the pandemic box office, grossing over $379 million worldwide. The spy-thriller received great reviews and had fans raving of Scarlett’s impeccable performance. 

It’s quite mind-boggling that Johansson was able to deliver the role of a Marvel superhero by not lifting weights and rather taking it easy with Pilates.

During her podcast interview, the actress expressed, “I got to an age when I was actually training on ‘Black Widow,’ and you know, I think it’s hard to lift heavy weights at a certain point.”

Scarlett had her debut in Marvel films in Iron Man(2010). Although she “had never been to a gym,” she began weightlifting aggressively after signing her first Black Widow role at 24. 

However, by the time she signed Black Widow (2021), Johansson was in her late thirties. Hence, she planned to switch to a different form of workout that was effective yet less stressing on the body. She told the interviewer, “You just, your body reacts in a different way than it [did] — the recovery is tough. And so I started doing Pilates to try to give myself a break from some of the heavy weightlifting and I just fell in love with it. And now I do that mostly.

Pilates is a form of mind-body exercise developed in the 1920s. The exercise is performed simply on a mat concentrating on strengthening the body with an emphasis on core strength. Overall, it improves posture, balance, and flexibility in the body. Not just Scarlett Johansson, tennis player Naomi Osaka also shares the actress’s love for pilates.

Tennis champ loves Pilates too

Pilates is not just for those older in age and more prone to gym-related injuries, the exercise has also seen an increase in popularity among youngsters.  Last year, four-time Grand Slam singles champion Naomi Osaka shifted to doing Pilates.

In 2022, Naomi Osaka faced a series of injuries that resulted in her poor performance at the Grand Slam events. Eventually, the tennis player decided to prioritize her fitness over training. Hence, she did some sessions of Pilates. Osaka shared a snap of her doing Pilates on Instagram and captioned the picture, “Tried pilates for the first time ever today.” It helped her in improving her core strength.
