Ronnie Coleman was always pretty casual about bodybuilding before getting into the big leagues. He had a normal police officer job when he started working out. Eventually, though, he became a legend and won the most Mr. Olympia titles.

He won eight consecutive Mr. Olympias from 1998 to 2005, and his streak was finally broken in 2006 by Jay Cutler. Coleman, even with a herniated disc, didn’t care about it much and kept competing professionally.

Ronnie Coleman once talked about modern bodybuilders

Ronnie Coleman, who shares the most Mr. Olympia titles with Lee Haney, was not impressed by modern bodybuilders. He talked about how they are not ready to take risks as he used to do.

“They don’t work out hard and they don’t work out heavy,” Coleman said, “Everybody’s scared they’re gonna get hurt and they’re gonna get injured and all this.”

Coleman revealed how he thinks that modern bodybuilders are not ready to take risks, as he did back in his prime. He thinks that they are just scared of getting hurt during the process.

“That’s the trend now you know, so you want to have a different physique when you work out like that,” Coleman said. Coleman simply talked about how physique depends upon how much effort the bodybuilder is putting into it.

It might happen that some people might not take risks while pursuing something. But for Coleman, it was a different scenario when he used to train. Coleman never wanted to know the risks; he just wanted to push his body as much as he could.

Coleman during his prime time

Stumbling upon bodybuilding, Coleman never thought that it would play a huge role in his life. Coleman wasn’t sure about the gym because he knew it cost a lot to go to the gym. But, Brian Dobson, who is the owner of Metroflex Gym, had other plans for Coleman.

Dobson offered Coleman a lifetime free gym session. Coleman wanted Dobson to train him for the 1990 Mr. Texas bodybuilding competition, and the rest is history. Coleman was not ready to forget the taste of winning. Keeping that spirit, he kept on winning and winning till 2006, when Jay Cutler finally broke his eight-time Mr. Olympia streak.

Coleman suffered from a herniated disc during an intense squatting session in 1996. Despite the major injury, he worked out with a herniated disc for 10 years.
