In a 2019 interview with Howard Stern, The Austrian Oak recalled an anecdote while shooting Terminator Genisys. Schwarzenegger was practicing one of his most iconic dialogues. However, director Cameron had to yell at the former bodybuilder for taking up too much time. What was this dialogue? Let’s find out!
Cameron scolded Arnold Schwarzenegger
Arnold Schwarzenegger is a critically acclaimed actor in various movies, including Conan the Barbarian, The Terminator, and Predator. Since he was sincere in his role, he would try to make his characters seem more convincing. During the shoot of Terminator Genisys, however, a similar attempt got him a yell from director James Cameron.
During the filming of one of the most iconic dialogues of the series, Arnie sat down to debate with the director. The dialogue in the script was “I’ll be back”. However, the star argued it should’ve been “I will be back”. During his conversation with Stern, Arnold recalled how the contemplation of the dialogue slowly grew into a debate. While Arnold argued a machine wouldn’t abbreviate, Cameron felt otherwise.
In the end, Cameron lost his cool. He yelled, “What does the godd*mn script say?” And when Arnold replied that the script said ‘I’ll’, Cameron yelled back, “then say the f*****g line!”. The director also added that since he never questioned Arnold’s acting, the star shouldn’t question his writing.
