The bodybuilding arena has seen many champions; while some managed to stay in the limelight since their debut, some eluded into the shadows. Among many such faces is Sally McNeil, aka ‘Killer Sally.’ Since Netflix released its docuseries titled ‘Killer Sally,’ she again came back into the limelight.

The former professional bodybuilder was married to fellow bodybuilder Ray McNeil. But everything was not well in the lover’s paradise. Speaking up for the first time, Sally opened up about her troubled marriage and revealed how her husband made her feel inferior.

When Sally McNeil opened up about her married life

Born in a small town in Pennsylvania, Sally’s childhood was surrounded by violence. As the documentary explained, she eventually learned to defend herself. Eventually, she went on to join the US marine and earned herself a name in the bodybuilding industry.

However, for certain reasons, she was soon dismissed from the military. She eventually focused on wrestling and went on to adopt the stage name ‘Killer Sally.’ During her professional journey, she met fellow bodybuilding fanatic Ray. Smitten by each other pair decided to tie the knot in 1987.

However, soon her marriage started to fall apart. Sharing how Ray treated her, she commented, “He said that I was inferior and he was the superior bodybuilder, and everything should go towards him.”

She further added, “From the start, I wasn’t good enough. I was never good enough. Ray felt as though he was the most important person in the family. He was trying to get me to give up my dream so I could support him.” 

What does Sally do now?

Unable to bear more, she took up a drastic step. Citing domestic abuse, she ‘shot her husband.’ She has served her sentence and is now a free woman. However, she remains away from the limelight and social media. Sally currently lives in northern California.

For the unversed, she won the famous ‘U.S. Armed Services Physique Championship’ twice in the late 1980s. Now aged 60, she spends her life in seclusion. She has two children, one son, and a daughter. Both the children served in the military, following in their mother’s footsteps.
