While training, the person a trainee trusts the most is their trainer. But sometimes things may get out of hand if you follow someone blindly. This is exactly what happened when Ronnie Coleman decided to trust Chad Nicholas without any questions.
What happened to Ronnie in 2001?
Recently, Samir Bannout and John Hansen appeared on the 22nd episode of The Muscle Maturity podcast with Nick Trigili. In the episode released on November 23, 2022, the trio talked about some recent and some ancient stories from Old School Bodybuilding. One such story was about Ronnie Coleman and Chad Nicholas from the 2001 Mr. Olympia.
Nick brought up one of the conversations he had with Coleman, wherein the King had told him about the time he almost quit in 2001. Coleman had told him that Chad gave him some drug without telling him what it was and it had an adverse effect on his body. However, when he brought it up with Chad, he simply asked him to drink water, and then everything was fine again. Nick added that he thought Ronnie’s story was quite outlandish. He then asked for Bannout’s opinion on the matter.
Recalling the exact incident, Bannout said, “Look, I was there. I saw Ronnie Coleman, and he was sliced beyond your imagination. Ronnie was as dry as the desert sand. I walked into the room that day. I can tell you the truth — I saw about 24 gallons of water. 24 maybe more. It was all around the room, water everywhere. I swear to God.” He added, “His condition was all things scary. I’ve never seen someone so massive and ripped, simultaneously, like Ronnie Coleman that day.” He further stressed how dangerous dehydration can be for the body.
