Arnold Schwarzenegger married Maria Shriver in 1986. The couple had met each other at a tennis tournament in 1977 and dated for about years. Shriver’s mother was Eunice Kennedy, which made her part of American political royalty. By 1986, Arnold had also garnered considerable influence and fame. Over the years, the couple’s popularity and influence rose.

However, they kept their children away from the spotlight. Arnold and Maira wanted their children to grow up without the pressure of fame, hounded by the media. While the parents did their job, in 2011 it all came crashing down. Maria separated from Arnold. It soon came to light that Arnold had fathered a child with housekeeper Mildred Patricia Baena.

The aftermath of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver’s separation

After the separation between Arnold and Maria became public, Katherine and her siblings found themselves in a difficult situation. During a 2011 interview with Harper’s Bazar, Katherine opened up about the challenges she had been facing. “Me and my siblings have never really been in the spotlight growing up,” said the then-21 year. “My parents always really sheltered us,” added Katherine.

She recounted her harrowing experience. “I would go out to lunch, and literally 20 people would come and scream at me,” Katherine told the reporter. However, Katherine realized they wanted her to give an unsavory reaction. “This is so inappropriate; you’re trying to provoke me to have an attack and say something crazy,” said Arnold‘s daughter.

During the interview, Katherine revealed she traveled to London t get away from the media and the questions. Katherine also didn’t read the various reports on her parents. “I see them, but I choose not to read the stories,” she told the interviewer.

Despite the separation, Katherine and her siblings focused on preserving the bond between them and their parents. “I just focus on my family and everyone being okay instead of following the gossip,” said Arnold and Maria’s daughter.

The separation didn’t affect Katherine’s optimism about marriage

In 2016, four years after her parent’s separation, Katherine told People Magazine she hadn’t lost faith in the prospect of marriage. Katherine said, “I definitely want to get married. It hasn’t like affected me in that way.” Arnold’s daughter also said Arnold and Maria taught her a lot about a fulfilling relationship.

Katherine Schwarzenegger married Hollywood star Chris Pratt in 2019. Chris and Katherine dated for roughly a year before tying the knot.

Arnold and Mari’s separation affected the children. However, the couple were there for their children even after the separation.
