80-year-old bodybuilding icon Frank Zane is a perfect example of an aesthetically pleasing body. Zane was on his best run between 1977 to 1979 when he won Mr.Olympia three times in a row. However, he could have captured his fourth win had he not experienced a dreadful urethral injury in 1980. The retired bodybuilder recalled the incident in a recent interview.

The three-time Mr.Olympia redefined the concept of symmetry and proportion in bodybuilding. Unlike other bodybuilders, Zane followed an out-of-the-box strategy to build a competitive body. It involved lightweight training along with a measured intake of supplements and amino acids. His well-informed bodybuilding strategies made people call him by the nickname, The Chemist.
Frank Zane recalled the horrific incident in 1980
Popular for his unique style of bodybuilding, Zane followed a lightweight training regime. Zane’s body created massive hype in the bodybuilding world. However, he had to turn to heavyweight training to win Mr.Olympia three times in a row. His fourth shot at the title fell with a thud with Zane falling prey to an accident. Recently, in an interview with Lisa Alastuey, a professor in the Health Science department at the University of Houston, Frank recalled the horrific incident.

The devastating incident that happened in 1980 in his house in Palm Springs before Frank’s fourth Mr.Olympia. He explained,
“One day I jumped in the pool. I hit the lip of the pool in my urethra, smashed my urethra, and his blood gushing out of my penis. I went to the hospital and I ended up competing anyway, you know. But I wasn’t at my very best. I was very muscular. I lost about 15 pounds of muscle and I didn’t win.”
With serious injuries, it marked the end of his Mr.Olympia victory. In that competition, he was placed third alongside Arnold Schwarzengger’s controversial win.
Frank helped Arnold Schwarzenegger with math
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Frank Zane might be famous for their rivalry during the Mr.Olympia title, but in reality, they are very good friends. From sharing career advice to helping in academics, they have seen it all together. In an interview with Escape Fitness, Frank revealed that Arnold went to Santa Monica City College and was struggling with math. He was not able to solve algebraic questions. Frank helped him with the problems. He stated in the interview, “I helped him with that.”
