Jay Cutler is an undisputed bodybuilding legend. Amongst all the milestones he has achieved, he is best known as the person who defeated Ronnie Coleman. Such was his passion for the sport that he moved to Las Vegas to compete in Mr. Olympia. Defeating the eight-time title winner Coleman, Jay secured the title for himself four times.

Jay had an impressive physique and was often hailed for maintaining such an enormous physique. But for Jay, that was not an easy task. He did not just put in hours perfecting his physique and muscles, but he put a lot of effort into his diet. He was very particular about calorie intake and followed a regimented life. But what about after he won the competition? Did he let his guard down? Yes, he did.

The one thing that Jay Cutler craved after winning the competition

When  Cutler was in his prime, he used to consume 4700 calories. His monstrous diet roughly comprised nine meals and lots of protein. To claim back the title, he never let his guard down. Many think that after winning the competition, Jay would perhaps treat himself to savory and delicious food.

While athletes have different preferences for after-win diets, Jay just craved ‘water.’ Unlike other athletes, Jay did not crave junk food. He did not want to treat himself to pizza or a burger. As Jay spoke for himself, “All I want after the show is water. I don’t care about food. I don’t care about pizza, I just want water after water after water.”

For the unversed, ‘dehydration’ is a common bodybuilding tactic that bodybuilders time and again use to ‘dry out the muscles to make them look more pronounced. Though Jay never commented on whether or not he opted for the same tactic. However, when it came to his diet and eating habits, he was very conscious.

Jay’s glory in bodybuilding 

Jay never aspired to be a professional bodybuilder. All he wanted was to join the Police department or FBI or work in corrections. But his life took an unexpected turn when he won the 1993 Teen Nationals in Raleigh, N.C. After this win, he realized that he wanted to pursue a career in professional bodybuilding.

He managed his studies and passion together. He pursued his degree in criminal justice and took his time out to lift weights. Securing his place amongst the top teenage bodybuilders during his time, he won one title after the other.

After securing the runner-up spot six times, he earned himself the most prestigious title of ‘Mr. Olympia.’ He henceforth consolidated his place amongst the bodybuilding elites.
