Jay Cutler, the 4x Mr. Olympia winner is renowned for his thundering victory after years of missing the title by a narrow margin. While success is a major motivator to continue in any field, Cutler fed on failure after failure to reach the pinnacle of the sport. Fair to say, he demonstrated immense physical and mental strength without being bogged down by failures. This is a testimony to his passion for bodybuilding.

Cutler has always been vocal about different issues related to bodybuilding. His opinions are sometimes hard-hitting but are undeniable. While it is inevitable to compare the bodybuilders in the current era to the past eras, one would be keen to know why Cutler thinks modern-day bodybuilders lack passion.

Jay Cutler remarked bodybuilders these days train for Instagram

Comparison with the past eras and modern-day bodybuilders gained momentum recently after Dorian Yates and Ronnie Coleman commented on Brandon Curry’s victory in Mr. Olympia 2019, stating that he wouldn’t have landed at the top during their time. However, the debate continues.

 

In a 2018 interview, Cutler made some remarks about the ongoing trends of bodybuilders. And one can’t deny how relevant it is to this date. Passionate about training and going to the gym meant relieving stress for Cutler. Furthermore, he said he didn’t take phones into the gym, “I didn’t shoot things.”

He continued, “Now people train for Instagram.” Also, he said that they trained to make themselves look like something. “It’s just – a lot of what you see on social media is just a facade.” Also, he added, their lives aren’t that great. “There’s been no real passion in a lot of these people’s vision… so for me, I was very passionate. I feel like it lacks a lot of passion now.”

Cutler didn’t deviate from his goals

Cutler began bodybuilding at the age of 18. He followed a strict diet regime and workout routines and rarely deviated from the pattern. Also, he controlled himself from indulging in habits that would disrupt his bodybuilding efforts.

Whenever he had to eat at restaurants, he would choose restaurants that serve nutritious food. He entered the competitive world of bodybuilding and made every effort to clinch the title four times. The 49-year-old former bodybuilding champion continues to work out and said, it is his favorite time of the day.
