With changing times, the approach to bodybuilding is also evolving. Where people used to hit the gym almost seven days a week, now bodybuilders prefer using the benefits of a restful day. In fact, many veteran bodybuilders advocated resting more to gain more. Speaking about the same, IFBB veteran Tom Platz shared his views on how the bodybuilding arena differed, back in the 80s.

The Quadfather was widely known for his massive stature and incredible quads. Presently, the 67-year-old bodybuilder is doing a great job sharing his experience for the betterment of beginners.

On April 6, 2023, the YouTube channel Fitness Motivational, shared a video featuring the IFBB pro. The golden era bodybuilder talked about how he learned that resting was more important than the exercise itself. He shared, “I always believe in training hard. Real, stupid, brutal hard, and resting extremely hard as well. You gotta train hard, you gotta rest hard. People didn’t understand, they never talked about that in the magazines in the 80s.”

He further opened up about how the magazines always focused on training hard. In fact, he further shared that people used to think about him as someone who trains every day. But the Quadfather revealed that he only performed squats twice a month. Even though he would do 50 reps of squats with 405 lbs, Platz preferred to rest more. However, he is not the only one. The Comeback Kid shares Platz’s opinions on the importance of resting after a grueling workout.

Recently, the former Mr. Olympia shared his pearls of wisdom about gaining muscle, on a TikTok video. His focus was to talk about how long rest is important to get the ultimate growth. The four-time winner stated, “…remember, recovery is when the muscle is growing. So be be choosy, about how you react and how you monitor your workout routines and always focus on the growth.”

Sharing his own experience, Jay Cutler said, “I was going to train my biceps, I would give myself 5 to 7 days rest in between…So I would say definitely 72 hours rest before you train it again. Not just say you can’t shock the body and train it you know several times, if you want to do biceps three times a week its a smaller muscle group.”
