His ex-girlfriend, Barbara Outland Baker, recalled one of her memories about Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2003 when he became the governor of California.

Arnold Schwarzenegger embarrassed his ex-girlfriend

A young aspirational boy who wanted to conquer everything he eyed. This was Arnold Schwarzenegger when he came to America. In an interview with Oliver Poole in 2003, Barbara talked about Arnold, who just arrived in the crowd of America. Barbara said, “That was the thing about Arnold. He did use to wear that pitiful little European clothing. Polyester pants and pointy shirts and those awful ‘under’ T-shirts. It was an embarrassment to me at the time.”

Barbara said, “At first, he could barely speak more than 200 words of English. My girlfriends, with their lawyer and doctor husbands, frowned on him.” 

Contrarily, Arnold always had the foresight to look at the larger aspect of life. Arnold said to Barbara, “What do they know, they are just traditional. I am going to be famous beyond anything they know.”
