Kai Greene is one of the finest bodybuilders who hasn’t managed to win a Mr. Olympia title in his career. Despite giving neck-to-neck competition to 7X Mr. Olympia Phil Heath in three consecutive years, Greene remained a runner-up. From 2012 to 2014, Greene stood behind Heath. However, he could have competed yet again in 2015 but couldn’t because of a dispute.

Kai Greene began competing in pro bodybuilding competitions in 2005. He actively competed for the titles till 2016 and hasn’t competed since. However, he hasn’t retired officially yet, which always keeps his comeback a mystery. Once, Kai revealed some of his techniques and the process of his training. What was it about?

Kai Greene likes to maximize the stimulation

Kai Greene is yet another high-intensity trainee. He loves to give it all when he lifts the weight. For four years into the pro bodybuilding, Greene didn’t win any major competitions. But before going into 2009, Greene increased all his input to increase his efficiency to the best.

Before the 2009 Olympia, Greene said“I train heavier now than even two years ago, but the weights are just tools. I don’t care how much is on the bar – I let Oscar figure that out. My muscles don’t know what I’m lifting as long as I’m blasting out in full intensity.”

Greene added, “I train heavy, but use instinctive intensity techniques to increase stimulation. Bottom line – I only use the weights as a tool to build my muscles.”

Greene found out early about being lactose intolerant

A bodybuilder needs to have a complete, nutritious diet to gain muscle mass. High-intensity diet is as important as a high-intensity workout for building an impeccable physique. However, bodybuilders use supplements to fulfill their nutritional requirements. But Greene found out pretty early in his career that he is lactose tolerant and hence, gave up on casein supplements.

For many years, he worked out as a ‘proper food’ bodybuilder. He found different ways to fulfill his nutritional needs via various foods like steak. However, eventually, he found out about beef protein isolate supplements when he signed up for MuscleMeds. Moreover, it completely changed his physique and strength. And put him on the maps of IFBB.

Greene used a rare technique where he himself didn’t know what weight he was lifting. He trusted Oscar and let him do everything with the bar. He kept it simple and just lifted whatever he was given on the bar. This way, the conscious mind doesn’t limit the weight that we might limit if we choose the weight on the bar.
