Arnold Schwarzenegger has had a long and prosperous relationship with bodybuilding throughout his life. Besides building his near-perfect physique, the 7X Mr. Olympia has also gained a repository of knowledge on the same subject. But that’s not all. Today, at 75 years of age, Schwarzenegger is determined to make a difference in the bodybuilding community. For that, he openly shares his knowledge on how to maintain a healthy physique. His unflickering passion for the subject oozes out in his newsletter, ‘The Pump Daily.’

In the latest edition, the Austrian Oak tackles an important issue, backed by the Journal of Bone and Mineral research. He explains how low amounts of muscle mass can lead to a significant drop in life expectancy and how that can be avoided with a “strength train”. Here’s him explaining the matter in detail.

Schwarzenegger’s latest newsletter is divided into three sections – “How Many Calories Does Muscle Burn?“, “How to Make Yourself 63X Less Likely to Die Early”, and “The Stress Management Playbook”. It’s the middle section that this article deals with. He starts the section by reminding his readers about the worth of building muscle. The importance of building and retaining muscle is significantly higher than most might imagine. It is the key to a longer life.

He wrote, “In a study published in the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research, scientists found that women over 65 with lower amounts of muscle mass (in their arms and legs) were 63 times more likely to die early than those with more muscle mass.” The result was significant in men but not as dramatic. Men with more muscle mass were 11 times less likely to die earlier than those who weren’t as muscular.
