As per the social media update, the 60-year-old athlete recently shared a picture of his mind-blowing physique from 2 decades ago. Apparently, he decided to retire from the industry after his ‘97 Mr. Olympia win. “Here’s a shot of myself guest posing in 1997,” his caption stated. Additionally, Yates also implied that it was one of his last posing appearances, after which he left the bodybuilding domain for good. “The next chapters in my life would be a whole new challenge…” the caption concluded. Encouraged, fans chimed in with their opinions:

Most of the fans drooled over his picture-perfect lean proportions and huge calf muscles, however, some criticized his sudden exit from the sphere. Apart from that, he once publicly addressed his retirement while revealing the harsh realities that influenced it. Here’s what he said.

As per a 2019 interview with MD’s Global Muscle Radio on YouTube, he got candid and spoke about various aspects that nuanced his final competing days. He revealed that a series of injuries threatened his probability to get back to the sport. Moreover, the setbacks restricted him from even training.

“Probably five years ago, I was still doing what I could, as far as bodybuilding training, but it was limited,” he disclosed. He added that his biceps and tricep injuries made it difficult for him to work out. Thus, he called it quits with the weights.
