Arnold Schwarzenegger stamped his name in Bodybuilding, in a manner no one had done before him. However, his decision to retire from the sport left fans in shock back in the day. Turns out, he knew better. In a resurfaced video on social media, Arnold Schwarzenegger explains why he left bodybuilding and joined the glamorous world of Hollywood.
The reason speaks of his ambition to soar higher than ever. In an old interview, from the sets of Conan the Barbarian, he explains his decision to retire from bodybuilding.

Arnold Schwarzenegger entered Hollywood to look for more challenges
In the interview, Schwarzenegger explains, “I won everything. I won for 13 years the world championships in bodybuilding. So there was no more challenge for me really there. So I thought of getting into something different that would create a lot of challenge for me and it would be very difficult”. And guess which career he opted for to quench his thirst.
Yes. Arnold Schwarzenegger made it to the big screen in a matter of a few years after retiring from bodybuilding. And he struck Gold. Conan the Barbarian was a massive hit at the box office, and it soon established his name in the movie business.

In talking about his penchant for challenges and how he overcame all of them in bodybuilding, the Austrian Oak wasn’t being arrogant. Schwarzenegger is a 7-time Mr. Olympia champion, six of which he won in consecutive years. He has already set the bar in bodybuilding and for future bodybuilding stars as well. There was nothing to follow after that.

Other challenges for Schwarzenegger, and his forever link with bodybuilding
Schwarzenegger ‘s challenges in Hollywood were different though. After a massive hit with Conan the Barbarian, he was on his merry way to be an action star. He followed it up with bigger blockbusters like The Terminator and its sequels, True Lies, and Total Recall. But he would soon be typecast as an action star. Later, took a break from acting and worked as politican, going on to become the governor of California.

Schwarzenegger came to the US as a young boy from Austria, full of dreams. Suffice it to say, he achieved most, if not all of them, with a fascinating career that started from bodybuilding, journeyed into movies, and also ventured into politics. But his legacy in Bodybuilding will forever remain as an enshrined tomb for future stars to worship. Today, the Arnold Classic is a bodybuilding contest that lives on, in his name.
