What must it feel like to win the Mr. Olympia Classic Physique consecutively four times, and yet not consider oneself being devoid of that “killer mindset” of champions? Well, Chris Bumstead feels that way. In a recent podcast, Cbum believed that everyone loves sporting legends like Michael Jordan. And yet his ‘win at any cost’ mentality separates him from the rest of them. For starters, Cbum isn’t like that.

Chris Bumstead appeared in the ‘Don’t Be Sour’ podcast, hosted by Maxx Chewning. While talking about bodybuilding and bodybuilders, Bumstead mentioned how some of them carry an attitude that is focused solely on winning, traits that are visible in the likes of Michael Jordan.

Maxx Chewning posed a unique question to Bumstead. He asked that while there are hardcore bodybuilders out there, people might relate more to someone like CBum because of his approachable persona. Bumstead agreed. He said that he didn’t want to look like the big bodybuilders, which to him were hardcore.

CBum said, “A lot of people, a lot of bodybuilders, at least they have this really like, hardcore like? even a lot of champions, to be completely honest, in the world”. He was talking about how he realized very early on that he didn’t possess that mindset. Bumstead continued, “Like Michael Jordan. People love him and it’s so fascinating, but he is so unrelatable. I can?t fathom having that killer mindset all the time of just needing to win… don?t even think about losing. Because that?s not who I am”.

There was a strange yet modest vibe that oozed out of his words. For someone, who has literally been invincible at Olympia for the past four years in the Classic Physique category, he had a point.

How is CBum different than other sporting greats?

Bumstead’s point was that he is shy and introverted. Therefore, his nature often prevented him from having that killer attitude most champion sportspersons possess. Someone like Michael Jordan, who Bumstead mentions, has always had a persistent nature of competing and winning against his opponents. Even another NBA legend Charles Barkley only ever wanted to beat Michael Jordan more than anyone else. CBum believes he lacks that mentality.

But Cbum has other beliefs. He thinks he can’t have that “killer mindset” all the time. Hence, rather than focusing on that, he chose to focus all his energy on bodybuilding and worked hard for it without expecting any result. Today he has already attained legendary status in the classic bodybuilding world.
