It’s been 26 years since he last won a Mr. Olympia title in 1997. But this English bodybuilding legend is barely out of touch with his workout routines. Not only is he fully devoted to his training and workouts, this mass monster of the 90s still possesses complete mastery over every single rep he does. The unbearable weights he has lifted over the years, and still continues to do, don’t seem to affect him in perfecting every rep. The 60-year-old is still setting goals for the current crop of bodybuilders.

Dorian Yates dominated the bodybuilding circuit in the 1990s. His 6 straight Olympia victories from 1992-1997, catapulted him as one of the greats of bodybuilding.  He may not have performed the poses at the Olympia stage for more than two decades now, but he’s surely not forgotten the ways to build muscles.

Dorian Yates recently shared a video on his Instagram, where he is doing “Leg Extensions”. Alongside, he shared a long caption that read, “Performing a set of heavy leg extensions with perfect form… You only see the outside, but on the inside, it’s a different story. I close my eyes and in my mind, I become the quads!” Yates has always had a way to master the mind. His mental resilience is also what helped him conquer the Olympia stage 6 times in a row.

Yates continued, “I’m visualizing the muscle fibers contracting and moving the weight, squeezing, resisting, and lengthening on the negative”. This extraordinary mind-over-matter technique is something Yates believes allows him to push beyond boundaries. What may have seemed impossible at first, soon starts falling into place perfectly.

He finally said, “It’s total mastery of every single rep, every set, and every workout… it’s a form of meditation”. The absolute calm and composure Yates must be at, to call an intense workout ‘meditation’, is something to envy. But that’s not all he does.

Yates also has a specific way of maintaining the flow of his breathing. How he inhales the negative and exhales the positive, might not be noticeable at first. But it is just an important part of this whole routine, insists the bodybuilder. Dorian Yates is currently 60 years old and hasn’t been near any competitive bodybuilding stage for many years, but his constant workout keeps him young and healthy. Surprising as it sounds, as per a VO2 Max test, his biological age turned out to be 39.

If his leg routine is anything to go by, the bodybuilder still possesses one of the finest means to excel at any workout.
