Ronnie Coleman, A.K.A. The King has achieved every desirable feat in bodybuilding. The man with the most Olympia titles has also earned the respect and complement of his peers and rivals alike throughout his career. But what was astonishing was that a big guy like him possessed a calm demeanor. With his freakish Body Mass Index and intimidating stature, one can be forgiven to assume that he had been in some tough fights. However, contrary to that belief, Coleman carried a pleasant attitude and had never been in any fistfights.

In a 2019 interview with American entrepreneur Patrick Bet-David, Coleman talked on multiple topics and revealed what he was like in school and college, his early NFL dreams, and how it felt like dominating the bodybuilding world for nearly a decade. What came as a surprise to Bet-David was when Coleman talked about his relatively calm nature throughout his school and college life.

Patrick Bet-David is renowned to have interviewed famous people, including athletes like Kobe Bryant, Magic Johnson, Phil Heath, etc. So when he had a sit-down with the 8x Mr. Olympia champion, he took cues from his previous interviews. He started the interview by reading a few praises that Coleman’s peers and rivals had sung for him. At an hour mark, the interview reached a point when the discussion turned toward Coleman’s temperament.

Bet-David said, almost with a childlike curiosity“You weren’t even a temperamental guy. You were not a fighter in high school, it’s not like you…..” and here Coleman interrupted him with a series of ‘No’‘No, no, no, no’, Coleman said, showing his firm assertion in never taking up violence.

Bet-David affirmed Coleman’s calmness by calling him an ‘easy-going guy’ and a ‘chill guy’. Coleman continued, “I never even had a fight in high school or college”. It took Bet-David by surprise, as he expected the big man to have had a few altercations at the least. Bet-David, in a tone of disbelief, kept asking Coleman ‘Ever’ repeatedly. He kept pressing Coleman for even a slight bit of altercation he may have had, but Coleman, too, on the other hand, kept saying, “Never” repeatedly.

Bet-David’s persistent efforts vs Coleman’s strong response, before some humor

Bet-David changed his question to “You’ve never had a fistfight?” to which Coleman kept saying, “Never”. He asked the question twice, almost certainly not believing Coleman for the first time. Bet-David’s interrogation didn’t end there, and he tweaked the question a bit more.

He asked this time, “You’ve never punched somebody in the face?” Coleman remained unfazed and as determined as ever in saying “never”. However, realizing that he wasn’t going anywhere with his persistent efforts to get an answer, Bet-David lightened the question with humor. He said, “Not even as a cop?” to which Coleman replied, “Well….” leaving the question open-ended. This open-to-speculation answer that Coleman may have hit someone during his police officer days led Bet-David to burst into laughter, and the two of them had a great laugh about it.
