Truth be told, very few live a full life. Arnold Schwarzenegger is one of them. The Austrian gentleman came to the States and became a bodybuilding legend after winning seven Mr. Olympia titles. Meanwhile, the Terminator actor entered Hollywood and made the cut to unbelievable fame. Today, at 75, when he looks back at his life, he recounts the highs and lows as he saunters through life unabated. For Arnie, three names stood out. They were the many fond memories of Franco Columbo, George Schultz, and Jim Lorimer at various points in his life.
The passing away of any close acquaintance, let alone a friend, hits hard. In fact, what has bothered Schwarzenegger the most in recent times is losing out on the company of a select few who once had a profound impact on his life. Recently, a stranded Schwarzenegger penned his feelings for a friend.
Schwarzenegger is angered by the concept of death

In an exclusive interview with Mark Leibovich for The Atlantic, Schwarzenegger goes down memory lane with Leibovich through the various streets of Santa Monica, California. Revisiting old memories can also dig up a lot of emotions. This gripped the Austrian to the core when he showed Leibovich the one-bedroom apartment that Schwarzenegger used to share with Columbo during their brick-laying days, not long after they landed in the US.
Arnold Schwarzenegger once said on Howard Stern’s radio show, that the idea of death doesn’t scare him as much as it angers him. This was in October 2019, just two months after Franco Columbo had passed away. Franco Columbo died on his way to a hospital as he was carried via a helicopter after feeling unwell during a swim. When one talks about the timing of his death, Schwarzenegger’s words on the Howard Stern show hits even harder. Speaking to Leibovich for The Atlantic, he said, “If people have a tremendous impact on your life, that means that a chunk of you is being ripped away,” about the friends he has lost.

Schwarzenegger wrote, “I love you, Franco. You were my best friend” hidden deep within his long Instagram post. He also attached a picture of the two of them hugging each other. This was different from the resurfaced photo which shows Schwarzenegger towering over his Italian mate. But that’s not the only blow the Austrian Oak endured. Come 2021, Schwarzenegger’s close mentor and Reagan-era secretary of state, George Schultz died. Schwarzenegger spoke at his funeral. But the tragedy didn’t end there.

Schwarzenegger misses his best buddies very dearly
Seeing the passing of close friends hollows the heart. As if this wasn’t bad enough, Schwarzenegger’s business partner and friend of more than 50 years, Jim Lorimer died in November 2022. Lorimer’s impact on Schwarzenegger’s life was beyond friendship. In fact, Lorimer was the founder of the Arnold Sports Festival.

While these emotional blows have taken a big toll on the Austrian hunk, at 75, he still forges on. The Terminator, Commando, and Predator star can look back at his life and be proud of all the achievements of his life. However, he would be most proud to call them, his friends.
