The Austrian Oak is back with his daily newsletter, ‘Arnold’s Pump Club’. And this time, one of the topics he deals with is, “What really happens when you cut carbs”. One of the consistent beliefs regarding low-carb foods is that it is essential in helping lose fat. However, Schwarzenegger debunks the notion, and backs it with research.
He wrote in his newsletter, “A diet too low in carbs — and, specifically, starches — can reduce the feel-good brain chemical serotonin”. Schwarzenegger quoted the research in the Archives of Internal Medicine to make that claim. He also said, “low-carb diets are not superior to low-fat diets for fat loss”, this time quoting another research study by Examine website.
Schwarzenegger wished to convey to his readers, that they find a plan that they can stick to. Instead of relying on the minimal benefits of a low-carb diet, a regular, healthy plan might be the solution after all.
Schwarzenegger urges everyone to choose a diet that suits them
Schwarzenegger explains in detail, the damning effects a low-carb diet could have. The fact that serotonin, which helps feel good and controls mood, could be reduced by a low-carb diet, is a detrimental effect on the body. Serotonin also controls the appetite and helps prevent overeating. All of those beneficial effects could be lost when sticking to a low-carb diet.
