Ahead of Mr. Olympia 2022, speculations in favor of Mamdouh ‘Big Ramy’ Elssbiay to secure the Shadow trophy for the third time in a row were significantly high. Confident with Ramy’s winning chances, admirers refuted the possibility of others securing the first spot. Thus, when underdog Hadi Choopan lifted the winning cheque and became the first Iranian to become Mr. Olympia, the bodybuilding world was shocked.

Now speaking about Ramy’s journey and on-stage performance at the competition, IFBB/NPC judge Chris Cormier shared a word or two. Calling the winning chances of Ramy a “hype,” Cormier shared his interesting take on Big Ramy on the latest episode of the Prime Time Muscle podcast.

Reflecting on Ramy, Cormier remarked, “I think everyone was hyped up on Ramy because getting ready for the competition, everyone saw him.” However, hinting at Ramy, Cormier quickly added, “he was in shape far out from the show.” For the admirers, Cormier said that it was “just a race” about who would be securing the top spots. He acknowledged that Big Ramy’s loss was indeed unexpected for the fans and that no one saw that coming.

As a judge at the event, he and the others on the panel were also in the process to try and understand things during the pre-judging around. He further added, “something happen to where he wasn’t as hard as people thought he might have shown up as.” Reflecting on the results, Cormier says that it was “disappointing.” To explain himself better, he drew parallels with an undefeated football team who went for a super bowl but came back without winning.
