Arnold Classic Memories: Phil Heath and Jay Cutler Reunite in Vintage Photo

Phil Heath and Jay Cutler are elite names in the bodybuilding community. The former’s significant reign from 2011 led him to seven consecutive Mr. Olympia wins while Cutler stunned the domain with his iconic quad-stomp poses and 4x titles. Recently, pro athlete manager, Matt posted an iconic throwback picture of the two champions from 8 years ago. 

Moreover, the post was re-shared by the 43-year-old athlete in remembrance of the star-studded moment. The post featured the manager seated with the two bodybuilders arriving ahead of an esteemed event. Where do you think they were heading to?

As per the social media update, the three were on their way to the Arnold Sports Festival in 2015. The selfie was clicked while on the airplane itself, with a smiling Cutler at the window terminal, while Heath pouted in the middle. Furthermore, the caption narrated the circumstances surrounding the picture. Reportedly, they luckily landed before a massive ice storm hit the city of Columbus. 

“#TBT 8 years ago to the date in route to the @arnoldsports… We were last plane to land in Columbus before the airport shut down from the horrible ice storm in 2015 w @jaycutler @philheath,” the post’s caption read. 

Although neither managed to grab a title among the top 5 contenders, 5x Arnold Classic winner, Dexter Jackson aced the ultimate title that year. He also holds a record for most title wins in the pro men’s category with 26 triumphs set to his name. However, it is intriguing to know how the Arnold Sports Festival twines back to the bodybuilding legend’s name.

What inspired Arnold Schwarzenegger’s name in the bodybuilding event

As per reports, the Austrian Oak was rising to fame in the 70s. He won his first Mr.Olympia title in 1970 and also the Mr. World Championship the same year. This encouraged a win-win relationship with a prominent sports promoter, Jim Lorimer. Starting their firm companionship from there on, the Arnold Sports Festival was born and is symbolic of their friendship. 

The festival was initially known as the Arnold Classic which still remains the name for the pro men’s event. The initiative was taken in 1989 to promote and influence fitness-oriented events among the mass. However, the name was derived from the athlete after his reign at the Mr. Olympia stage. In 1990, Schwarzenegger was appointed as the Chairman of the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports.

However, Jim Lorimer’s unfortunate demise in 2022 discouraged the entire power-lifting domain. The G.O.A.T. took to his social media struck with grief and paid him a grand tribute. Moreover, he promised to grace the festival with his presence in his honor.
