However, the 7x Mr. Olympia Champion, Arnold Schwarzenegger has finally given his valuable insight to resolve this bodybuilding parley once and for all. 

Recently, the 75-year-old bodybuilder addressed various myths revolving around several workout methodologies. While sharing insights on weightlifting and strength training, the Austrian also shared the perks of doing the workouts in the right way.

The Austrian oak recently appeared in an interview with Men’s Health and profoundly talked about the art and science of training. As he gave his perspective on doing endless repetitions for muscle building, the bodybuilder asserted, “Simply doing a lot of reps isn’t enough”. He further added, “you need to near the limit of what your body can do, and that’s when your body will grow”.

Now, comes the weightlifting. As per Schwarzenegger, “if heavy weights make you happy, go for it. But if little weights make you happy, you’ve got good company!”. Interestingly, as the 75-year-old drew parallels between weights and reps, he said, “the big mistake is that you can just do endless reps of a lighter weight and grow”.

Furthermore, the 7X Mr. Olympia champion conceded with finding the balance between the two main bodybuilding exercises. “There’s an art and science of training. Intensity determines your outcome”, added Schwarzenegger. Interestingly, the Austrian’s motive behind a balanced workout regime is inspired by his idol, Eugene Sandow.

Schwarzenegger takes his inspiration from the German bodybuilder

Eugene Sandow was a German bodybuilder and a showman from Prussia. Sandow’s love for fitness and building a meticulous physique played a prominent role in popularizing strength sports in the early 20th century. Moreover, the German showman was “the strongest man in the world and became incredibly famous on multiple continents for his body”. Interestingly, as his fan, Schwarzenegger revealed the tidbits of Sandow’s balanced workout. The Austrian stated, “he was known for doing 125 reps with very, very light dumbbells”.
