While his focus has been on children picking up good habits, he mentioned particular mistakes that adults made. Per Schwarzenegger, one needs to go beyond diet and exercise. In a detailed segment in his newsletter, the former bodybuilder explained that healthy living had more to it than food and workout. A proper amount of sleep is just as important as the other two. In fact, if an individual does not get adequate hours of sleep, they might have a bad day. Improper sleep significantly affects health, and there is a lot of evidence to prove it.

However, the legend raised an important question – how much sleep does one exactly need? While 7-8 hours are usually recommended, Schwarzenegger quoted a study from Harvard that recommended anywhere between 7-9 hours. It guaranteed all the benefits of a good night’s sleep. However, what happens when one sleeps for 6 hours and below?

The star had some significant facts to reveal. Not only was 6 hours of sleep inadequate, but it also had some adverse effects on humans. He referred to the Harvard study once again and talked about how scientists conducted an experiment on about 68,000 people. The results? People receiving less than six hours of sleep weighed about 5 pounds more. The legend wrote, “those who slept less than 6 hours a night weighed an average of 5 pounds more and were 15 percent more likely to be overweight…”

The star thus brought his fans face-to-face with the reality of not sleeping well. As someone who has stood up for a healthy living, the study concerned Schwarzenegger. Even at 75, the former bodybuilder made sure to stay in shape and work out regularly. And now, the star aims to promote adequate sleep as a part of a healthy lifestyle.
