Lesley Maxwell is a fitness influencer who inspires millions across the globe with her ‘fitter than ever’ physique. The 65-year-old redefined the meaning of ‘age is just a number’ when she embarked on her fitness journey in her 40s after her divorce. Maxwell also concentrates on enlightening people about effective bodybuilding regimes. Recently, she quashed the misconception of muscle building in women.

On April 14, the winner of 30 fitness titles shared an Instagram post talking about heavy weightlifting, which is popularly believed to make women look manly. The granny bodybuilder put forward her idea of weightlifting and shared its benefits.

Recently, Maxwell shared a picture of her lifting a set of dumbbells. Along with it, the fitness enthusiast added a caption about women’s insecurity in lifting heavy. She began her posts by saying, “Lifting heavy weights will make me look masculine” is what many women say. But it’s not the case! “

Maxwell expressed that heavy weightlifting is one of the biggest concerns in women. They fear that lifting heavy dumbbells will make them look masculine. However, as per her, it is far from the truth. She further explained, “However lifting weights will help us look toned, plus help strengthen our bones and add lovely lean body tissue (aka muscle).” There are several benefits involved in heavy weightlifting. Not just toned muscles and strong bones, the regime also increases the body’s metabolism, enhances fat loss, and improves self-esteem.

Further, the bodybuilder shared that she recently came across a client who was apprehensive about looking manly if she lifted heavy weights. However, Maxwell chuckled at this common myth saying, “ If only it was that easy after one training session. Lol!” Lastly, she urged female fitness aspirants, “Please ladies don’t be afraid to lift weights.” She assured her female followers that building muscles would not make them look manly. Instead, they will achieve “a lovely firm and strong body💗”

Besides busting the myth around heavy weightlifting, Lesley Maxwell recently shared her anti-aging secret as well.

Weights are Maxwell’s anti-aging secret

In February, Maxwell shared a video of her working out. What caught the attention of her fans was her anti-aging secret which she revealed in the caption of the video. She wrote,  “I just can’t resist lifting a few weights. In my opinion weight training is a must for maintaining a strong and lean body whatever age we are.” She continued, “You only need to learn a few movements, such as – push – pull – squat – lunge. Perfect these movements while lifting weights as it’s Anti- aging and easier than you think💗xoxo”

Maxwell prefers to work out five times a week to maintain her rock-hard abs. In fact, she avoids eating extra sugary food items in her holidays by replacing them with consuming high-protein items. Aging gracefully, Maxwell has three grandchildren. Moreover, she often gets mistaken for her granddaughter Tia Christofi who is currently in her 20s.
