However, the competition didn’t go well for Mr. Universe. He got badly ranked in the competition where the legendary bodybuilder Dorian Yates won his first title. Ronnie Coleman once opened up on how his debut went and how did he feel about it.
Ronnie Coleman opens up about the time he struggled
Indeed, he won eight Mr. Olympia titles in his career. But the beginning was not at all in his favor. Ronnie Coleman stood last in his first Olympia and didn’t even qualify for the next one. Ronnie remembers the 1992 Mr. Olympia with a very bitter memory of waiting and waiting till the end to just get the last position.
Ronnie recalled in an interview, “I’d just won the Mr. Universe and turn pro in and it’s history from there, you know. Of course, I struggled a little bit. My first Mr. Olympia was 1992. They called everybody out there and.. you know we go at the end and they call you up to, you know, do comparison.”
He added, “They went through comparison probably about two hours. I stood on stage about two hours and then moved from one spot. They didn’t call me to do a comparison with nobody, so I was dead last in that Mr. Olympia.”
Coleman never gave up
It wasn’t just about his first Mr. Olympia. He didn’t even come closer to the title for the next five years. The highest position he reached was sixth in the 1996 Olympia until he won Mr. Olympia 1998. And there was no looking back since then. He went on to win eight consecutive titles until 2005.
