IFBB icon Jay Cutler dominated the Mr.Olympia stage with four consecutive triumphs. Thus, his significant wins vaulted him to the top of the sport, which further propelled his net worth to around $30 million. Moreover, a crucial aspect of his training regimen was the massive diet routine that cost him millions. Yet, ironically, there was a time when Cutler couldn’t even afford a mere bodybuilding magazine.

This part of his life was revealed in a recent interview on his podcast venture, Cutler Cast, on YouTube. He spoke about his go-to place for reading these publications, without buying them.

Jay Cutler connotes his zeal for bodybuilding

As per the interview, the pro elucidated his efforts to expand his knowledge of bodybuilding. “And then I would go into GNC at the time…GNC is the only place that really sold bodybuilding magazines,” Cutler said. GNC is a retail organization that markets health-focused products. Therefore, the store was the bodybuilder’s favorite bookstore in those times. Unfortunately, a then young Cutler didn’t have enough to even spend $5 dollars for the magazine.

Thus, the quad-stomp poser settled down in front of the magazine section and read the whole thing to his heart’s content. “I would sit and read, because I didn’t wanna pay the 5 dollars for the magazine…So I would read it front to back,” he disclosed. The interesting revelation was surprising and equally heartwarming for the fans since it iterated his passion for bodybuilding.

Later on, the conversation gravitated toward the first bodybuilder Cutler ever saw in real, not necessarily a pro. It was Tony Freeman. He claimed the former icon visited his gym in Worcester, Massachusetts. Shedding light on his monetary priorities, the 49-year-old star athlete once made it quite clear that it was the money that encouraged him to compete in the latter stages of his career.

Drivers of success can fluctuate from athlete to athlete, however, the 5’9” star athlete was once forthright about his. Cutler was driven by the greens that accompanied his triumphs in the sport. Talking about former 212 Mr. Olympia ace, Derek Lunsford, he said that the guy’s among the very few who do not prioritize the reward money.

Nevertheless, speaking for himself, Cutler said, “Once you start winning the big ones, unfortunately, it is about the money. I experienced this.” Additionally, a post on Instagram hinted at the same. In the caption, the icon wrote, “On not being motivated by money: They don’t have a taste of it yet. They might not be as motivated as us seasoned guys.”

Cutler’s genuine stance on the matter actually speaks of his bold persona. He doesn’t shy away from facing his reality and, honestly, it is worth appreciating.
