Lee Labrada is a well know professional bodybuilder. He has been given the nickname, “The Mass with Class.” But not many know that before taking up bodybuilding, Lee was training to be a football player.

Lee has participated in several bodybuilding competitions, such as IFBB Mr. Universe, Mr. Olympia, etc. Throughout his career, he has won 22 such titles. He has also been placed among the top three finalists at the Olympia for 7 consecutive years.

Lee reveals he was once training for football

Recently, Lee Labrada appeared on one of the podcast episodes of Fouad Abiad. In this episode, Lee sat down with Abiad and opened up about his life, family, career, and business. “The 150th episode of “Fouad Abaid’s Real Bodybuilding Podcast” aired on Nov 15, 2022.

At one point in the hour-long episode, Lee revealed that before training to be a bodybuilder he had started training for football. However, it was during this training that he realized that he’ll be better off as a bodybuilder than a footballer. Lee said, “I started training when I was 16 and I started playing to gain weight for football but I found out that I was a better bodybuilder than a football player.”

Talking about the position he played, Labrada said, “I was a defense at back.” When asked about the reason for the switch, he revealed it was because of an injury. “I got injured actually. I had a soft tissue back injury which landed me in the gym and I started weight training and I just never looked back,” said the former Mr. Universe.

Lee Labrada is an American professional bodybuilder, entrepreneur, and author. He is the CEO of the Labrada Nutrition. His first book, ‘The Lean Body Promise’ was published in 2005. Not only is he a successful bodybuilder, but he is also a civil engineer. Lee followed in the footsteps of his father and earned a degree in civil engineering.

In 2002, Lee launched a campaign called “Get Lean Houston.” The campaign advocated health and fitness in order to help the city’s residents get in shape.

As a result of Lee’s efforts, Houston was able to leave behind the tag of being the “Fattest City in America”. Furthermore, in 2004, Labrada was inducted into the IFBB Pro-Bodybuilding Hall of fame. Lee continues to be a strong presence in the fitness industry.
