The traditional thought of a father being the bread earner is often celebrated with pomp on Father’s Day. And who better than a bodybuilder, actor, and politician, Arnold Schwarzenegger, to stand up as an ideal example? While the star wooed his audience as The Terminator, he gained more respect as a father to his five children. However, he realized his shortcomings back then, and once spoke about them in a candid chat.

Arnold’s pride and joy, his eldest daughter Katherine Schwarzenegger, once sat down with him in 2021, on the occasion of Father’s Day. The duo on Katherine‘s IG show, “BDA Baby,” spoke about parenting and the legend’s experience raising children. When it came to talking about the occasion, however, the star hesitated to take credit. Arnold Schwarzenegger took Father’s Day with a grain of salt

In an Instagram live session with his daughter Katherine, Arnold sat down to share some of the lessons he learned on parenting. The star always made news for the way he brought up the Schwarzenegger siblings, teaching them independence and humility. Coming from a humble background, he did not want his kids to grow up without learning how to survive on their own. Yet, when it came to accepting credit for his role as their father, Arnold was in a dilemma.

The star opened up about how he felt that mothers deserved more credit in this aspect. He reasoned that his kids spent more time with their mother. And while his ex-wife, Maria Shriver, had most of the responsibilities, she also deserved most of the celebration and reward for her duty. Meanwhile, he would usually be on movie sets all the time.

“I was making movies, I was trying to make a living, and make a lot of money for the family”, explained Arnold. The star revealed how he always took Father’s Day with a grain of salt for similar reasons. Because he was away for most of the time, he didn’t feel he could ever be there for his children.

Nevertheless, his children always remembered how their father taught them to be independent and pave their own way. Arnold’s son, Patrick Schwarzenegger, once even recounted how his father taught him concepts of profit and loss during his childhood. He would encourage Patrick to set up lemonade stands and trade baseball cards. All these qualities made Arnold a perfect example of a good father.
