“Wanted to Go Away”: Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Daughter Fled to Another Country to Escape the Aftermath of Her Parents’ Separation in 2011

Something similar happened with the Schwarzenegger family, which saw their eldest daughter, Katherine Schwarzenegger, take a decision to escape it all.

While the situation was difficult for the couple, it was tougher for their five children. Their eldest child once opened up about her emotional situation and what she did to avoid all the negativity after her parents’ separation.

Katherine revealed people aggressively approached her whenever she was seen in public. However, after some time, the then-21-year-old found her way to escape the unwanted attention.

Katherine, who fled to London in late May 2011, told HarpersBazaar that she went, “insane in Topshop. I just kind of wanted to go away and realize that it’s not as big a deal in other places.”

She continued, “I see them, but I choose not to read the stories because I figure whether it’s true or not, I don’t need to. I just focus on my family and everyone being okay instead of following the gossip.”

Why did Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver separate?

Arnold and Maria separated in the early days of May 2011, after Shriver learned about Arnold’s illegitimate child with their former housekeeper. Although she knew about it before 2011, she chose to reveal this once he ended his governorship.

After taking the decision, the couple stated, “This has been a time of great personal and professional transition for each of us. After a great deal of thought, reflection, discussion, and prayer, we came to this decision together.”

They officially divorced a decade later in 2021. But even now, they do celebrate special occasions like birthdays and anniversaries together.
