Bodybuilding icon Mamdouh Elssbiay, popularly known as Big Ramy, once talked about his childhood struggles in a podcast in 2021. He shared how he needed to work in order to support his family.

Big Ramy has scaled new heights in a very short time. He won the Mr. Olympia title in 2020 and retained it in 2021. Coming from a humble background, he started training at a very young age. He was given the popular nickname, Big Ramy, as he shot to fame.

Big Ramy opens up on his childhood struggle

On the debut of the podcast ‘The Menace’, host Dennis James invited the reigning Mr. Olympia Mamdouh ‘Big Ramy’ Elssbiay. While in conversation with the host, Big Ramy shared his childhood struggles.

He said, “I am 8 years old, and I’m going with my family every summer, going to fishing from the sea. In the winter, I would travel with them to the lakes. It was work for the family, it wasn’t fun times. You have to work.”

Big Ramy always wanted to become a bodybuilder. However, the road to success wasn’t an easy one.

Elssbiay’s claim to fame

Big Ramy first rose to the spotlight when he began working out at the Oxygen Gym in Kuwait. The gym had a long list lot of champions who were coming to Kuwait and hence, Big Ramy decided to be there as well.
